Slide background

With the wide choice of investment options available today, how do you know which is the right strategy for you? At Navigate we recognise that there is never a ‘one-size-fits-all’ investment strategy, we understand that implementing the right strategy for each client, is crucial to the success of your investments.

Our role is to understand your financial situation and identify your investment needs, tolerance to risk and length of time you wish to invest. We will then discuss the best ways to structure your portfolio to maximise returns and minimize exposure to market risk and review this regularly to ensure that your investments are in line with current market trends and are still appropriate for your investment needs.

There are a wide variety of different investments that can form part of your overall asset allocation and this mix will be determined by your attitude towards risk and the length of time you want to invest. The most common investments that form part of your portfolio are as follows;

Growth based investments –

Generally speaking, growth based assets are associated with shares and property. These types of assets are aimed to provide you with the opportunity to receive an income through dividends or rent and aim to provide you with capital growth over the long term depending on the value of the underlying asset. Growth based assets are associated with short term volatility and day to day fluctuations so they generally require a longer investment period to maximize the probability of a positive return.

Defensive based investments –

Defensive investments include cash, term deposits, fixed interest investments and bonds. These assets are designed to provide you with peace of mind and more security than growth investments and in turn are more suitable for short term investments where you may require access to cash quickly. These investments can be effected by the rise and fall of interest rates and may potentially have their own risks especially when you are unable to generate enough return to reach your financial goals.

Accessing these investments – Direct or indirect

Direct investments are available for the above asset classes and involve you physically holding the shares, property or term deposit. By obtaining these investments directly, you are responsible for the management of these assets and the investment decision to trade in or out of these rests with you or your adviser. Although it may be cheaper to manage direct investments on an ongoing basis, you need to consider if you have the time to be able to review your portfolio and make the right decisions of how to invest on an ongoing basis.
Indirect investments are products such as managed funds and provide you with the ability to obtain the above assets such as shares, property, fixed interest and bond investments through a fund manager who is making investment decisions on your behalf. Although there is an ongoing cost for the management of this type of investment, you have peace of mind knowing that a team of professionals is managing your portfolio on your behalf.

Our role at Navigate Financial Group is to work with you to help you understand the options available, create the appropriate mix of investments and implement the strategy to work towards reaching your financial goals.
